Change is not always welcome, but change is good when it responsibly meets the needs of a thriving, growing, evolving community. In previous posts, we’ve talked about new development trends and the present needs for housing necessitated by the increased commercial investments and available jobs. We are excited to respond to changing trends and local housing needs with The Oaks Development.
The golf course property located at the corner of Brown Bridge and Crowell Roads has been a part of our community since the 1930s. The original course was designed by the legendary golfer Bobby Jones as an amenity to the Porterdale Mills. The course went by several names until it was purchased and developed further by Dick Schulz in 1989. It opened to the public as The Oaks Course on August 24th, 1990.
Recently acquired by Infinity Homes and Development, the Oaks course will undergo significant changes in the next few years. This development will incorporate the best from the history of the original golf course, our current housing needs, and the trends toward mixed-use development.
The current plans are for 142 single-family homes, 190 townhomes, and 360 apartments. The development will also include 143,000 feet of retail space attracting grocery stores, small businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues. After the initial development plans are completed, a nine-hole executive golf course will connect the present to the past. The Oaks development will be a true live-work-play community. Infinity is thrilled to be a part of such a quality development.
We look forward to creating a destination development where future generations can live out their lives in a fantastic contemporary community with a solid connection to past history.
